I am a Maker and DIY IoT guy who has a ton of experience working with Arudinos and ESP8266 chipsets. I recently purchased a commercial product on a whim that has a MediaTek MT7682SN chip. The board has touch points for serial communications, so I believe I can re-flash the chip.
For reference I am the maintainer for a custom IoT maker platform called CoogleIOT (http://github.com/ThisSmartHouse/CoogleIOT) and run http://www.thissmarthouse.com/
I don't like running random untrusted firmware devices on my network, plus being a maker I love tinkering with this stuff. If I was interested in re-flashing the firmware on this device with something of my own design how can I got about doing that? Ultimately this board connects to WiFi and via an I/O pin looks like it flips on/off a relay (it's a garage door opener) so I feel like if I can build any firmware that works I can also deal with this...
Basically, I guess we can start with a few questions:
- This chip isn't listed as a MediaTek product anywhere I can see -- how can it be flashed?
- What is the SDK / toolchain / etc. I would need to do it? Is it an open source thing or commercial?
- Is there documentation on flashing these chips beyond just the data sheets?
